Commercial Free

I understand the significance of commercials and marketing. Regardless of this fact, I do not give my time away willingly to such things. More than ten years ago, I began muting my television during commercials. I no longer listen to local radio stations. Heck, I even mute the volume at the self-checkout before I proceed to scan a single item.

I imagine there are a lot of folks who would think my behavior is odd. It’s not that I don’t want to listen to others; I refuse to be forced to listen to horseshit. The thing is, I have excellent listening skills, and I enjoy keeping my mouth shut while someone is talking to me. After all, we learn so much more by listening, listening, without waiting to pounce upon the speaker with our point of view, that is.

I wonder how many others feel the same way?
